Two of Utah's U.S. House members earned leadership spots in the election-shrunken Republican minority.

Rep. Rob Bishop was elected to serve as chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus, replacing lame-duck Utah Rep. Chris Cannon. Incoming Rep. Jason Chaffetz was chosen by his fellow freshmen GOP members to serve as their representative on the Republican Steering Committee.

Also on Thursday: Chaffetz said he agreed to appear on the satirical Colbert Report, which has poked fun at House members in its "Better Know a District" segment. House members have been warned not to appear on the Comedy Central show, but Chaffetz said he can handle it.

"Yeah, whatever," he said Thursday. "Lighten up."
