Prosecutors have filed drug charges against a woman previously named by police as a suspect in a recent Salt Lake City homicide.

Jill Rae Jensen Montoya, 34, was charged on Aug. 26 in 3rd District Court with two counts of drug possession, which are third-degree felonies. She was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and false personal information to a peace officer, which are misdemeanors.

At the same time, the court issued a $5,000 warrant for Montoya's arrest.

The drug charges stem from when Salt Lake City police officers were investigating Montoya as a suspect in the death of Edward Walker, 57.

Police found Walker's body on July 6 during a welfare check at his home at 1459 S. Roberta St. (250 East). Investigators have not said how Walker died.

Police publicly named Montoya as a suspect on July 14.

Three days later, detectives located Montoya and allegedly discovered metamphetamine, heroin and a glass pipe on her, according to the charges. She also allegedly gave police a fake name.

She was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on July 18, but released the same day due to overcrowding, according to jail records.

Montoya has not been charged in connection with Walker's death. On Wednesday, Salt Lake City police declined to confirm whether they still consider Montoya a suspect.

"Detectives have talked to her. They know where she is," said Detective Veronica Montoya, who declined to say more, except that the "case is still open."

Police previously reported that Jill Montoya was known to frequent the area of 1300 S. State St., but she had recently been seen in other parts of the Salt Lake Valley.
