There were fewer than 500 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Monday, according to the Utah Department of Health — the first time that’s happened since early September. There were, however, two more deaths.
And the number of Utahns hospitalized because of the coronavirus continues to inch down — four fewer hospitalized than on Sunday; seven fewer in intensive care.
Vaccinations reported in past day/total vaccinations • 1,033 / 525,033.
Number of Utahns who have received two doses • 160,809.
Cases reported in past day • 462.
Deaths reported in past day • Two. Both were men between the ages of 65 and 84 — one in Utah County and one in Weber County.
Hospitalizations reported in past day • 274. That’s down four from Sunday. Of those currently hospitalized, 104 are in intensive care units — seven fewer than on Sunday.
Tests reported in past day • 3,313 people were tested for the first time. A total of 6,644 people were tested Sunday.
Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 13.9%. That’s about the same as the seven-day average of 14.1%.
Its new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Today’s rate is now at 7%, slightly higher than the seven-day average of 6.5%.

Totals to date • 361,756 cases; 1,796 deaths; 14,209 hospitalizations; 2,125,510 Utahns have been tested.
