A southern Utah tasting room, an SLC vinyl listening bar and a Fillmore pub get liquor licenses

The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services also awarded licenses to several restaurants at its monthly meeting.

Three vastly different businesses — a wine tasting room near Zion National Park, a hi-fi vinyl listening bar in downtown Salt Lake City and a Fillmore pub — received bar licenses Thursday during the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services commission’s monthly meeting.

In all, the liquor commission awarded licenses to serve beer and wine to six restaurants; licenses to serve only beer to two restaurants; and full-service liquor licenses to seven restaurants.

That’s in addition to three separate bar licenses going to Water Canyon Winery at 1066 Zion Park Blvd. in Springdale, The Green Room at 17 E. 400 South in Salt Lake City, and The Eatery at 10 S. Main St. in Fillmore.

Thursday’s meeting was also the first for the DABS’ new executive director, Ericka Evans, whom Gov. Spencer Cox appointed in June after the previous executive director, Tiffany Clason, departed for a new job.

Evans served previously as deputy director for legal and regulatory affairs at the DABS, where she advised on policy and oversaw statewide licensing and compliance.

“I loved my time at the department,” Evans said at Thursday’s meeting. “It’s really the main reason that I’m excited to be back, and working with this fabulous team, this talented and capable team, and doing good for the citizens of Utah.”

The DABS also voted Thursday to award three-year contracts to two package agencies, which are privately operated retail liquor stores that are contracted with the state.

Captain Jack’s Spirits, in Delta; and Kamas Liquor and Wine Outlet, in Kamas, will both be operating in market areas for which the DABS didn’t receive any applications for package agencies during the most recent application process, said DABS spokesperson Michelle Schmitt.

The DABS is still seeking package agency applicants for Castle Dale — which has been without a package agency for nearly two years, Schmitt said — Milford in Beaver County, and Fillmore in Millard County.

Liquor licenses

The Green Room in downtown Salt Lake City applied for a new liquor license because it missed the license renewal deadline, Schmitt said. The Green Room was closed through the month of July “to make some long overdue improvements to our space and handle some biz,” it said in an Instagram post. The bar will throw a re-opening party Friday, starting at 5 p.m.

Water Canyon Winery’s tasting room and vineyard in Springdale is owned by winemakers Shane and Kalie Tooke, according to the winery’s website. The main winery and production facility is located in Hildale, which for years was known as the home of polygamist Warren Jeffs.

The Eatery in Fillmore was started in 2010, according to its website. It’s inside Fillmore’s Eagle Market, which sells groceries, sporting goods, hunting supplies and outdoor gear — and is near the Territorial Statehouse State Park Museum.
