Why Utah QB Cam Rising isn’t playing crucial game against Oklahoma State

Rising injured his throwing hand two weeks ago in a win over Baylor. Freshman Isaac Wilson started for the Utes in his place.

Utah quarterback Cam Rising was expected to start against No. 14 Oklahoma State after being a game-time decision on Saturday.

Instead, it was freshman Isaac Wilson who trotted onto the field first in Stillwater.

Rising, the Utes’ seventh-year senior, has not yet fully recovered from an injury to a finger on his throwing hand. He was injured late in the first half of the Utes’ Week 2 win over Baylor when he was tackled near the sideline and then pushed into a water cooler.

Last week, Wilson started for Utah while Rising watched from the sideline with tape on his right hand.

On Saturday, Rising was seen warming up with a white glove on his throwing hand.

In addition to Rising, the Utes are down a few key players on defense. Both senior linebacker Karene Reid and defensive end Connor O’Toole will reportedly miss the contest with an undisclosed injury.

The No. 12 Utes (3-0) have a difficult road test on Saturday as they march into Stillwater for their Big 12 Conference opener.
