Utah picked to successfully defend its Pac-12 gymnastics title by conference coaches

Utes get a Pac-12 high 48 votes, followed by UCLA, Cal and Oregon State in poll

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Maile O'Keefe competes on the uneven bars for Utah in the Best of Utah gymnastics meet at the Maverik Center on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021.

Utah’s gymnastics team has been tabbed to defend its Pac-12 title, as the Utes received six of the eight first-place votes and 48 points overall to land in the top spot of the coaches poll.

The Utes were followed by UCLA (40), Cal (39), Oregon State (32), Washington (21), Arizona State (20), Arizona (17) and Stanford (7).

The Utes claimed the inaugural regular season title last year after going undefeated but didn’t get a chance to take the conference meet championships since the season was canceled before the meet could be held.

This is the first time since the 2016 season Utah has been picked to finish first. The Utes won the Pac-12 Championships in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

The Utes begin their Pac-12 schedule Saturday at 1 p.m. against Arizona in the Huntsman Center. The meet will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
