University of Utah’s 2020 football schedule released with three weekday games

(Trent Nelson | Tribune file photo) Utah players run off the field at halftime, trailing 0-20 as Utah faces Oregon in the Pac-12 football championship game in Santa Clara, Calif., on Friday Dec. 6, 2019.

Another early-season clash with USC, a Thursday night at the Rose Bowl vs. UCLA, and a mid-October matchup with Washington highlight Utah’s 2020 Pac-12 schedule, released by the conference Thursday afternoon.

The Utes, 11-3 overall, 8-1 in the Pac-12, and winners of the Pac-12 South for the second consecutive season in 2019, will again face the Trojans on a Friday night. Last season, USC beat Utah, 30-23, in the Pac-12 opener for both teams at the LA Coliseum. The Utes then ripped off eight straight wins to close the regular season and claim the South.

Utah will face UCLA at the Rose Bowl on a Thursday night, Oct. 29. Sandwiched around that one is a high-profile home game against Washington on Oct. 17 and at Arizona State on Nov. 21. The Sun Devils, 8-5 overall last season, but just 4-5 in the Pac-12, are expected to be players in the South next fall.

Utah opens the season on Thursday, Sept. 3, with a home game against BYU.

The first batch of kickoff times are expected to be released in May.
