Utah goes to Kansas State Sunday for the second round of the WNIT

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) The Utah bench erupts during a three-pointer as Utah hosts UNLV in women's NCAA basketball at the Huntsman Center, Thursday, March 15, 2018.

The Utes will take their quest for an WNIT title on the road this weekend to Manhattan, Kansas.

The Utah women’s basketball team extended its season with a 10-point victory over UNLV in Salt Lake City on Thursday night. Now, they’ll tangle with Big 12 member Kansas State (17-15) at 4 p.m. MDT on Sunday in Bramlage Coliseum.

With a win Sunday, the Utes (18-13) would record their highest win total during the tenure of third-year coach Lynne Roberts and the program’s most since the 2012-13 season (22 wins).

The status of junior forward Megan Huff is uncertain after she left Thursday night’s game with an ankle injury with 10.7 seconds remaining. Huff missed the final two games of the regular season with a sprained ankle and wasn’t fully healthy for the team’s Pac-12 tournament game against Colorado.

However, Huff scored 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked two shots against UNLV.

“It’s just bad luck,” Roberts said following Thursday’s game. “[Ten] seconds to go, re-sprains it. We’ll see how she responds. Hopefully she can do on Sunday, but we don’t know.”

Kansas State, which went 7-11 in the Big 12 and placed seventh, defeated Saint Louis, 75-61, in its WNIT opener on Thursday.
