Conway, S.C. • Rylan Jones posted 19 points as Utah State defeated New Mexico State 85-58 in the Myrtle Beach Invitational on Friday.

“We executed our game plan to play smart, which did from the tip,” Jones said. “Kept them in front of us, and just executed on offense. We knew they were going to try to be physical and run through passing lanes. ... We took care of the ball, just executed and got our shots.”

Jones made 5 of 6 3-pointers.

“This guy right here was tremendous again and controlled the game in a lot of ways,” USU head coach Ryan Odom said sitting next to Jones after the game.

Justin Bean had 17 points and seven rebounds for Utah State (3-1). Brandon Horvath added 12 points. Max Shulga had 11 points.

Teddy Allen had 14 points and seven rebounds for New Mexico State (3-1). Levar Williams added 13 points.

“Obviously a great win for us,” Odom said. “We felt like we beat an excellent team. It wasn’t their day today obviously. I think our team had a lot to do with that.”
