The masks will stay on — at least for now.
On Monday, the Utah Jazz and Vivint Arena jointly announced that masks will still be required at Jazz games, as well as all arena events, even after the state’s mask mandate will expire on April 10.
“We continue to prioritize the health and safety of our fans, employees and players,” Jazz President Jim Olson said in a statement. “We are pleased that fans have been able to attend games since December in a limited capacity with incremental increases. While progress is being made with ongoing vaccinations, we are staying the course to maintain a safe and comfortable environment and will adjust our plans as public health conditions improve.”
Currently, face masks are required for all Jazz game attendees 2 years old and above, though patrons can temporarily remove their masks while eating and drinking. The requirement, the team says, “aligns with the safety measures established by the NBA and local health officials for mass gatherings.”
The team also announced that all of the current other COVID-19 protocols will also remain in place beyond April 10. A health questionnaire, cashless concessions, contactless entry, and other measures were instituted when the team started the regular season back in December.
Vivint Arena’s capacity for Jazz games remains at 5,500, one of the largest in the NBA. Only Orlando’s Amway Arena has hosted more fans for games this year among NBA arenas.
