Salem Hills star Lauren Gustin earns Gatorade Utah girls’ basketball player of the year

Scott Sommerdorf | The Salt Lake Tribune Lauren Gustin hustles to control a loose ball during second-half play. Salem Hills beat Hurricane 57-35 for the 4A girls' title, Saturday, March 3, 2018.

Salem Hills senior Lauren Gustin turned in dominant performance after dominant performance to help lead the Skyhawks to the Class 4A girls’ basketball state title.

Gustin was rewarded for her efforts when she was named the Gatorade Utah girls’ basketball player of the year.

The 6-foot senior averaged 29.3 points, 17.2 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game for the 24-1 Skyhawks.

“Lauren Gustin is a complete player who is nearly impossible to defend,” Springville coach Camie Oakey said in a statement. “She’s comfortable anywhere on the floor, and she brings out the best in her team. It’s rare to find a player who plays hard every minute she’s on the floor, but she does.”

Gustin plans to play at the University of Idaho.
