Jordan gets offensive in win over Corner Canyon in boys' hoops

Draper • Jordan delivered its best performance of the season and now sits alone atop Region 7.

Crew Wakley scored 18 points to lead five Beetdiggers in double figures in an 80-73 victory at Corner Canyon on Friday night.

Jordan (10-8, 4-1) was quicker off the dribble the entire night, an advantage that led to layups and high-percentage shots, and a season-high point total.

“It’s our biggest win of the season,” said Wakley, who was 8 for 8 from the free-throw line. “It’s region, and that’s really what matters. I think we played well together. We all shared the ball.”

Dyson Koehler had 16 points, Joe Dumsa scored 15 — three times his season average — Terryn Mosley had 11 off the bench, including two emphatic slam dunks in the fourth quarter, and Chandler Dean had 10 points before fouling out.

“We shared the ball well,” Jordan coach Trace Bevell said. “One of our keys, I tell them to share the ball, don’t be selfish. And right now they believe it. We did a very good job of making the pass that leads to the pass and assist. We did a better job of that tonight.”

Corner Canyon (10-6, 3-2) got a game-high 22 points from Gabe Toombs, but the junior forward got little support most of the game.

John Mitchell had 8 of his 13 points and Hayden Welling scored 7 of his 11 points in the fourth quarter as the Chargers tried to play catchup.

It was the second consecutive loss for Corner Canyon, which was stunned at Cottonwood earlier this week. The Chargers had allowed an average of 54 points in their first four region games.

Jordan led nearly the entire game and by double figures over the final 12 minutes.

Mosley, in his fourth game back after missing nearly a month with a hand injury, drove uncontested through the lane for dunks one minute apart midway through the fourth quarter.

“I was happy for him,” Wakley said. “It’s good to see him back doing that. I think it sparked some confidence in him.”
