One of us: Viral video shows Damian Lillard forgetting food on the roof of his car

The video of the Portland Trail Blazers star has more than 1 million views on TikTok.

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard takes a selfie with Donna and Ralph Friz who have been watching Weber State University sports for 60-years as the famous basketball player hosts an alumni game at Weber State, his alma mater on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021.

NBA players seem so much larger than life that, at times, it feels impossible to relate to them in any real way. But sometimes, they do or say something that endears us to them.

Damian Lillard, the former Weber State star and current Portland Trail Blazer, recently had one of those moments.

Lillard was caught on camera coming out of his car to retrieve a box of food that he had inadvertently left on the roof. It appears he stopped his car while in traffic to get out and get his lunch.

The video was posted on the TikTok account of his wife, Kay’la, and then reshared on ESPN’s official. It seems like Lillard knows the person who took the video because he can clearly be seen giving the person filming a big smile as they drove by. The video has 1.3 million views on TikTok.

The box of food looks to be made of white styrofoam. One commenter on TikTok replied, “our MVP goes to Panda like the rest of us!”

Lillard is a prime example of the everyman. While he has had ample opportunities to leave Portland and chase and NBA title in another city, he has stayed loyal to the franchise that drafted him. He returns to Ogden every year for an alumni game — he played all 40 minutes in last year’s — and recently invited a WSU player to his elite camp, per the Standard-Examiner.

So if it really is Panda Express that Lillard was eating, is he a chow mien guy? Does he ride or die for orange chicken, or sweet and sour pork? Does he like egg rolls?

Luckily for him, Lillard had enough wherewithal to remember his food was on the roof. While it represented a momentary lack of focus, he dialed back in just like he does on the basketball court.
