State colleges: Utah women’s basketball team falls short at Xavier

The University of Utah women’s basketball team suffered a 70-63 loss on the road at Xavier on Thursday night in Cincinnati, dropping the Utes to 0-2 this season.

Utah’s offense struggled to get going from the start, with the Utes shooting 36% from the floor, but the defense stayed strong and kept the Utes in the game until the end. Xavier only shot 36% from the floor, while the Utes forced 14 turnovers.

Freshman Brynna Maxwell led the Utes with 15 points, six rebounds, three steals and an assist. Andrea Torres added 12 points and six boards.

Women’s soccer

Utah 1, Colorado 0 • Ireland Dunn’s first goal of the season carried the Utes (8-8-4, 3-5-3 Pac-12) to a victory over the Buffaloes at Ute Field. Kristin Fairbairn assisted on Dunn’s first-half goal.
