Ed Davis fractures fibula, to miss at least four weeks

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) The Utah JazzÕs newest member, forward/center Ed Davis, who was signed to the Utah Jazz on July 20, pauses during questioning from members of the media Friday, July 26, 2019 at the Jazz basketball facility.

When Ed Davis left Friday’s game against the Sacramento Kings in the third quarter, his injury was initially described as a leg contusion.

But after further testing, the Jazz discovered he had suffered a left fibula fracture. As a result, he’ll miss at least four weeks, at which point he’ll be re-evaluated.

Davis, who had played every minute as Rudy Gobert’s backup, was out to a relatively slow start to the season, averaging just 1.7 points along with 5.2 rebounds per game. Now, though, he’ll have to take longer to get going.

Tony Bradley, the 21-year-old third-year player from North Carolina, is in line to play many of the Jazz’s backup center minutes without Davis. The Jazz could also use veteran Jeff Green at center — as they chose to at the end of the third quarter against Sacramento. Green, at 6-foot-9, played in some units as the Washington Wizards’ five-man last season.
