Provo • Brock Hale homered and drove in five runs, Ryan Sepede doubled twice and had four RBIs and five other Cougars each had two RBIs as BYU routed San Francisco 20-3 Thursday in a WCC baseball game at Miller Park.

Danny Gelalich had three hits for BYU (32-13, 16-6), which finished with 16. Six other Cougars had two hits.

Game 2 of the series is at 6 p.m. Friday.

Softball

Oregon State 2, Utah 1 • In Corvallis, Ore., Hailey Hilburn homered in the sixth inning to tie the score at 1-1, but the Beavers won it in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded single by Jessica Garcia.

Hilburn’s homer, her eighth this season, tied her for the team lead with Ally Dickman.
