Salt Lake City’s Tony Finau finishes second round with 10 birdies, makes cut at PGA Championship

Tony Finau completed his adventurous second round of the PGA Championship on Saturday morning, finishing with 10 birdies in a 4-under-par 66 that was just good enough for him to make the 36-hole cut at even par.

Resuming his weather-delayed round on the 12th hole Saturday, the Lehi resident made two more birdies and two bogeys to finish. His scorecard showed 10 birdies, a triple bogey, three bogeys and four pars at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis.

The two Utah club professionals in the field each ended up at 5 over par. Glenwild Golf Club's Craig Hocknull shot 72-73 and Davis Park Golf Course's Zach Johnson posted 76-69.

In the third round, scheduled to begin later Saturday, Finau may be paired with U.S. Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk again. In what was billed as an audition for the team, Finau and Xander Schauffele played the first two rounds with Furyk, who also shot even par for 36 holes. Schauffele (70-67) is 3 under for the tournament.
