Latter-day Saints got their first peek Tuesday at what the Syracuse Temple will look like.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released a rendering of the three-story, 89,000-square-foot edifice. It will be located on 12 acres at the intersection of 2500 West and 1025 South in the Davis County city.
Church President Russell M. Nelson announced the temple last April. No groundbreaking date has been set.
The Beehive State currently has 15 operating Latter-day Saint temples. Two more, the historic Salt Lake and St. George structures, are undergoing renovation. Eight others, including the one in Syracuse, are either under construction or planned.
The church, with more than 16.5 million members around the world, has its headquarters in Utah. About 13% of those members, or about 2.1 million, live in the state. It will be home to 11% of the temples that are either currently operating, under renovation or announced.
Latter-day Saints view temples as “Houses of the Lord,” places where the faithful participate in the church’s most sacred rituals, including eternal marriages.
