Utes release their 2019 football schedule; they’ll miss Oregon, Stanford in Pac-12 rotation

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah Utes running back Armand Shyne (6) celebrates with Utah Utes offensive lineman Jackson Barton (70), after scoring a touchdown late in the 4th quarter, tying the score at 27-27, in football action between the Brigham Young Cougars and the Utah Utes, at Rice-Eccles Stadium, Saturday, November 24, 2018.

The 2019 Utah-BYU football game will be played on a Thursday in Provo to begin the season in August and the Utes will open the Pac-12 schedule vs. USC on a Friday in Los Angeles in September.

The schedule announced Tuesday by the Pac-12 includes two byes for Utah during a 14-week schedule, placed at almost even intervals. The Utes will be off the weekends before visiting Oregon State in mid-October and hosting UCLA in mid-November. Washington is the only Pac-12 opponent that will have a bye before meeting Utah, on a weekend when the Utes are playing.

The 2019 season launches another eight-year cycle of Pac-12 scheduling rotations. The Utes will meet North opponents Washington State, Oregon State, California and Washington each of the next two seasons.

The Utes will miss Oregon and Stanford in the rotation in 2019 and ’20.

The rematch of last week's Pac-12 championship comes Nov. 2 in Seattle.

As is customary in odd-numbered years, the Utes will have five conference home games and seven home games overall in 2019. For the first time since 2002, all of Utah’s home games will be played on Saturdays. The Utes don’t play consecutive road games in 2019, and their schedule returns to the traditional format with all three of their nonconference games prior to Pac-12 play.
