The Jazz’s City Edition jerseys, inspired by the red rocks of southern Utah, have sparked a lot of strong opinions since they were revealed in December.
But here’s the thing: They’ve also been pretty popular.
The team is bringing back the City Editions for the 2018-19 season after they became the Jazz’s fastest-selling jersey ever this season, postponing Nike’s planned unveiling of a new locally inspired uniform. The organization also will keep the City Edition court, which features a silhouette of the Delicate Arch and the jersey color spectrum around the edge of the court.
The decision is a direct reflection of the popularity of the jersey, which sold out quickly, as well as feedback from players and fans, according to team officials.
“New design and color schemes can be initially polarizing to a fan base, but we have been overwhelmed at the favorable response to these uniforms that represent a special part of our state,” Bart Sharp, senior vice president of marketing for the Utah Jazz, said in a team news release. “We are excited to bring back this southern Utah version of the Nike uniform collection for next season, and we will introduce different looks in the future.”
The Jazz will wear the jersey once more this season, Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers. The team is offering a drawing for 45 remaining jerseys Tuesday, but more will be available commercially in the fall.
The team also announced the City Edition court will be used for Utah Summer League games in July. The dates and teams participating have yet to be formally announced.
