The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced that it will build its new Tooele Valley Temple in Erda — on property northwest of the intersection of Erda Way and Highway 36.

Church President Russell M. Nelson announced the temple in April.

The temple will be located near the Motor Vu Drive In and Virg's Diner.

According to a church news release, the 70,000-square-foot temple will be three stories tall. A 20,000-square-foot meetinghouse will be built nearby.

The temple plans “are still being developed” and “further information, including interior and exterior renderings, will be made public later.” No date has been set for a groundbreaking.

Operators of the nearby Motor Vu Drive In, when asked for comment, referred to a statement on the theater’s Facebook page. The statement read, in part, “when we do have a comment we will share it, but we are not ready at this time.”

Once this temple is completed — along with ones planned in Layton, Saratoga Springs and Washington County — Utah will have 21 temples.
