Letter: Trump is unraveling everything

(Evan Vucci | AP file photo) President Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally at the Monroe Civic Center in Monroe, La., on Nov. 6, 2019.

I have recently noticed letters that infer we should support Donald Trump and ignore his behavior, dismissing it as “childishness” or “It’s the economy, stupid!”

My question is: How can we stand by and let one man destroy the wonderful achievements of this country? In less than three years, he has unraveled what took over 200 years to build. He is rotten to the core, and will play whatever games he needs to evade the truth being brought to light, be that on his taxes, the Ukraine, or his relationship to Putin and the other despots.

His collusion with enemy nations, dismantling our international trade dominance, hush money to porn stars, incessant pathological lying, insulting our allies, while comforting our adversaries, disrespecting, demoralizing and throwing doubt on our armed forces and intelligence communities, using the office to profit in about a hundred different ways, encouraging and normalizing white nationalism, shows he has “not risen to the mantle of the office” as Mitt Romney said, but has dragged it into the gutter, as evidenced at his rallies. His hypocrisy and transparent corruption illustrates that he is a stain on our democracy and democracies around the world. We need our politicians to do the right thing and get rid of him.

His childishness: Using a permanent marker on a weather map to “prove” he was right would be laughable, if it wasn’t so pathetic.

The economy: Recently he tweeted “greatest economy in American History,” with GDP growth at 1.9% but, in May 2012, Mr. Trump tweeted that with 1.9% growth in GDP, “the economy is in deep trouble.”
