Letter: Federal workers should stay home Jan. 23

Government workers and their supporters hold signs during a protest in Boston, Friday, Jan.11, 2019. The workers rallied with Democratic U.S. Sen. Ed Markey and other supporters to urge that the Republican president put an end to the shutdown so they can get back to work. (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer)

I am pleading to every one of the approximately 800,000 U.S. government workers who are either furloughed or working for nothing.

Unite and make the legislative and executive branches of the United States of America wake up, get off their hind-ends and do their jobs. They can (at least) perform their essential tasks. Pass a spending bill that will end this national debacle and relieve the collective global embarrassment of "we the people."

Washington, D.C., just doesn't seem to get the message.

Do yourself and your country a favor and stay home Wednesday, Jan. 23. I guarantee that if all 800,000 of you (including essential government workers) say home that day, the problem will resolve itself in a Washington heartbeat.

They expect you to work while they twiddle their political thumbs and collect a comfortable salary. Yeah, you, too, at the IRS and the FAA. Get all those planes on the ground and go home, similar to 9/11. Build your own wall and demand the attention of all Americans to unite behind this defiant demonstration.

The longer you kowtow to the unreasonable and illegal demands of these unfeeling and self-serving politicians, the longer their blatant disregard for you will continue. They act like it's business as usual in D.C.

How long can you eat cardboard?
