Letter: Some suggestions for when Democrats take control of the House

(Ted S. Warren | The Associated Press) Campaign volunteers work at a table below a sign that reads "Ride the Blue Wave," during a gathering at a combined campaign headquarters for Democrats running for office in Redmond, Wash. on the night of Washington state's primary election, Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018.

Republicans in our Republican-controlled Congress have failed our country by sitting on their hands while our rogue president has made a mess of things.

Maybe when Democrats take control of the House in January, they can enact some remedies. Following are some suggestions.

  1. Pass legislation making it illegal for presidents to lie.

  2. Establish a prerequisite that all candidates for president must demonstrate a familiarity with our Constitution, particularly the passages relating to the separation of powers.

  3. Establish another prerequisite that all candidates for president must be certified by a panel of mental health experts to be free of any personality disorders.

These measures would go a long way toward preventing future predicaments like the one in which we now find ourselves.
