All of the time and money spent on the propositions on this year’s ballot are for naught. The voice of the voters carries no weight with the Legislature.
I've been around long enough that I can remember when the voters passed a proposition on term limits. The year it was set to take effect, members of the Legislature killed it to protect themselves. If it's not their idea, it doesn't have a chance.
The current propositions face the same fate, no matter how many votes they get. If it doesn’t help the legislators personally, or their sponsors, there’s no chance of anything becoming law. They won’t tinker with what passes to make it workable, they’ll just kill it outright.
They don't support the current propositions; hence, they are dead on arrival.
