There will be plenty of places to ski in Utah over Thanksgiving weekend. Recent cold weather has been a boon for resorts — including Snowbird, which will open for the season Saturday.
Ten days of low overnight temperatures and “the herculean efforts of our snowmaking crews” have Snowbird ready to open six days earlier than previously announced, President and General Manager Dave Fields said in a news release. “Weather forecasts show a system change later this week, allowing Mother Nature to hopefully take over and deliver an added boost of powder snow.”
Snow is in the forecast for the mountains on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Brian Head, Brighton and Snowbasin are already open; Park City Mountain opens Wednesday; Alta opens Friday.
Other scheduled openings include Solitude on Dec. 1; Nordic Valley and Sundance on Dec. 7; Deer Valley on Dec. 8; and Eagle Point on Dec. 21. Beaver Mountain, Eagle Point and Powder Mountain have not yet announced opening dates.
