Bird is the word at Audubon’s annual Christmas count at Red Butte Garden

(Scott Sommerdorf | The Salt Lake Tribune) The 118th Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count underway at Red Butte Garden. The count is the longest running citizen-science survey in the world providing critical data on bird population trends, Saturday, December 16, 2017.

Although their faces were often hidden behind cameras and binoculars, all eyes pointed skyward Saturday at Red Butte Garden for the 188th Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count. A spotted towhee, California quail and western scrub jay were among those spotted by bird-watchers.

The sold-out event — the longest running citizen-science survey in the world — helps provide data on bird population trends.
