A comedy about teens going on a “Mormon cosplay” adventure is hitting theaters this spring, and the first trailer is now out.
“Trek” will be released in theaters across Utah on April 6, the film’s distributor, Salt Lake City-based Excel Entertainment, announced Wednesday.
Filmed in Utah, the movie follows Tom (Austin R. Grant), who reluctantly joins a group of his fellow Mormon teens on a re-enactment of a pioneer handcart journey. Wackiness ensues as the teens must learn to deal without modern conveniences on the trail.
The movie is directed by Alan Peterson. The writers are first-timer Jon Enos and David Howard, the original writer of the 1999 science-fiction comedy “Galaxy Quest.”
“The trailer gives a great taste of this funny and poignant film,” said Arthur VanWagenen, director of Excel Entertainment, in a statement. “ ‘Trek’ is definitely not the typical Mormon-genre film. It tells a thoroughly modern coming-of-age tale of teenagers becoming modern-day pioneers.”
