Letter: Like the owners of Bruges bistro, I’m singing the Sugar House blues

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Road construction along 2100 South through the heart of Sugar House in Salt Lake City on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

It is 4:30 pm as I drive in bumper-to-bumper traffic on 1100 E. between 1700 South and 2400 South. I pause to reminisce about the days when there were additional lanes and there was little congestion as I drove home.

Now I look at the new, wider sidewalks and see very little foot traffic. The plants in the parking strips are lovely and I just hope they don’t meet the fate of the weed strips on 900 East.

No parking on the west side of the street, so I can’t do a quick stop at the Tea Grotto, Soup Kitchen or cute locally owned shops.

It is always a mystery intersection at 2100 South. Lanes either east or west are constantly under reconstruction. Although there are designated crosswalks, jaywalking still seems popular from east to west sides of Sugar House Commons.

I think I am singing the Sugar House blues as are the owners of Bruges Belgian Bistro and PIB’s Exchange in your recent article.
