Letter: What is your version of the future, Utah, with Trump in mind?

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Kevin Johnson with Utah Patriots advocates for former President Donald Trump over keynote speaker, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at the Utah Republican Party 2023 Organizing Convention at Utah Valley University's UCCU Center on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

So, Utah is this your vision of the future: Millions of people moved to concentration camps? Ever thought how expensive that would be? 80 million people in “professional” concentration camps? Well, maybe the plan isn’t to house them.

Thought about firing civil service workers? Appointing only “loyal” Trump supporters? Replacing military leaders with only “loyal” personnel? Removing any “perceived” adversaries? That doesn’t sound like an authoritarian take over, does it Utah?

Invoking the Insurrection Act so he can use the military against citizens, use the Department of Justice to prosecute aids and officials that criticized him? No narcissistic behavior there, right Utah? No speaking up, no questioning of Trump in any format. Sound like your version of the future?

Removing the Department of Education and creating a Trump-monitored education curriculum, sounds like Hitler’s youth schools.

Do you remember why the Department of Education was created? It was created to prepare people for democratic citizenship and ensure a more equal opportunity for public schooling. Democracies need an educated populace; authoritarian dictatorships rely on an uneducated one. Nothing to see here, no unpleasant history taught, only glorious stories of the grand leader. Your plan Utah? I thought the glory to God was education, I must have read that wrong.
