Letter: President Biden and the Democratic majority have seriously harmed our country

(Oliver Contreras | The New York Times) President Joe Biden talks to reporters as he arrives on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington on Sept. 1, 2022.

First, do no harm …

The phrase, “First, do no harm” is part of the Hippocratic oath that physicians must take in order to practice medicine. As a people, we should also require the President and our elected leaders to follow this same precept: “Do not enact legislation or support policies that will actively harm the well-being and prosperity of the United States and its citizens.”

It would be difficult to overstate how much President Biden and the Democratic majority have seriously harmed our country in just the first 20 months of this presidency through bad, progressive laws and policy actions.

A few examples:

  • Trillions of dollars of unjustified, deficit spending — leading to a damaging and continuing inflation spiral. (Just last month, the Biden administration doubled down once more on its misguided deficit spending spree with an additional trillion+ dollars in the form of the Inflation Reduction Act and a student loan forgiveness policy.)

  • Policies that have discouraged gas and oil production — leading to a doubling of gasoline prices and a loss of U.S. energy independence.

  • Lack of enforcement at our border — leading to unprecedented levels of unregulated immigration and a dramatic increase in harmful drug smuggling into the U.S.

  • A catastrophic, damaging pull-out in Afghanistan that (needlessly) allowed the Taliban and other terrorist organizations to come back into power and eliminated the only strategic U.S. presence and airbase in that region.

The damage the Biden administration and democratic majority have caused will linger painfully — even if the national leadership changes in the coming elections.

However, “We the People” must decide now to elect the right kind of leaders and to hold them accountable — so that their policy actions won’t continue to harm our country.
