Congratulations to Kael Weston on his recent declaration to run for the United States Senate. Having run for office myself, it takes someone of great passion and fortitude to step into the arena. And thank you for your service to our country, Mr. Weston. The military family in which I was raised, taught me that the cost of service is very high and should always be respected.
However, his reasoning for wanting to oppose Sen. Lee is perplexing. Mr. Weston described Sen. Lee as “an extreme and divisive politician whose political rap sheet is long and embarrassing for many Utahns.” Extreme? Divisive? Embarrassing? Really? The one Senator of 100 who knows the Constitution of the United States, believes in its principles and regularly argues for those principles is extreme, divisive and embarrassing?
Is it possible that the “many” Mr. Weston cites are those who have no idea about the proper role of government? Are they the “many” who have given up on their fellow citizens and prefer to have the federal government takeover more and more of everyday life? Are they the “many” who continuously tell the rest of us that we should just shut up and get out of the way so the government can continue its march into our lives?
If so, there is nothing extreme, divisive or embarrassing about a United States senator who regularly takes the slings and arrows of those who prefer force over liberty.
