Letter: It all adds up to one long disregard for democracy

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Redistricting Committee members Rep. Merrill Nelson, R-Grantsville, left, talks with Rep. Carl Albrecht, R-Richfield, in the House Building, Nov. 8, 2021.The public got to respond on Monday to the Utah LegislatureÕs Redistricting Committee's only public hearing for the map proposals.

If I am correct, our legislators disregarded the nine months (about 2,000 hours) of work the bipartisan redistricting committee spent on three maps. Then they spent 110 hours on passing a map that will last 87,600 hours. I am not sure how many hours the public was given to express their thoughts, but, no surprise, it wasn’t that long. Just one more proof this isn’t democracy of and by the people. Pretty sure the 10 minutes I spent writing this will be disregarded as well. All we can do is vote for women.
