Letter: “Euphemisms and spin” have been the go to GOP tactic for decades

FILE - In this Nov. 4, 2020, file photo President Donald Trump speaks to an election night party in the East Room of the White House in Washington. In Trump's presidency, fact checking became a cottage industry unto itself. And “alternative facts" became a buzzphrase, coined by one of his admiring aides. (AP Photo/Evan Vucci, File)

Rich Lowry blames Democrats for employing “euphemism and spin” tactics by calling conditions on the southern border a “challenge” rather than a “crisis.” He’s right. He also provides a perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black. Republicans have employed this tactic to their advantage for decades. Reagan had his welfare queens and we have since been treated to the death tax (estate tax), pro-life (anti-abortion), partial-birth (late-term), advanced interrogation techniques (torture), energy exploration (drilling), job creators (capitalists)), right-to-work (anti-labor), trickle-down economics (tax cuts for the rich), creation science (anti-evolution), people of means (billionaires) to name several. Oh, and one more: alternative facts (lies).
