Letter: Article about “gymnasts’ abuse” didn’t belong in Sports section

(Natacha Pisarenko | AP) Simone Biles, of the United States, dismounts from the vault during the artistic gymnastics women's final at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Tuesday, July 27, 2021, in Tokyo.

The Tribune missed the boat by putting the article about the four gymnasts in the Sports section (“Biles: FBI turned a ‘blind eye’ to reports of gymnasts’ abuse,” Sept. 16). It belonged on Page 1.

The Senate hearing is not about sports, but about the manner that women (girls) and children are treated in Utah, the U.S. and the world. Those men in the FBI dismissed their testimony, thus enabling a child predator to continue his evil.

Those in power (be it a sports venue, a religion, a corporation, a business, the military, etc.) need to be called out and their accusers need to be believed. Just because the accuser is a child does not make her/him a liar. Out of the mouths of babes.

Wake up everyone, these are our children who are being abused and who depend on adults to protect them and we’re doing a very poor job of it.
