Letter: Rise above the lies. The truth will keep America strong.

(Isaac Hale | Special to The Tribune) A skydiver lands with an American flag trailing during Stadium of Fire held at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on Saturday, July 3, 2021.

Our country faces enormous challenges. Challenges that require our best minds to work cooperatively to solve. It is time to put aside the destructive body of lies, deceptions, conspiracy theories and misinformation campaigns. It serves no purpose other than to undermine the foundations of our democratic system by sowing doubt, confusion, and mistrust. A party seeking power for power’s sake with no constructive agenda or plan to better the country is an anti-American body. Attempting to pass laws that make it more difficult for people to vote goes against our constitution and cannot be allowed. Denying science and medicine to make a political statement is lunacy. The deniers lose and die while the virus wins. Losing an election is part of the democratic process. Trying to overturn the results of a free and fair election and forcefully overthrow the processes that have kept this country strong because the loser does not like the outcome, is heinous and criminal. We must do better. We must move on. Misguided support for and loyalty to a single person is a recipe for democracy’s collapse. Rise above the lies. The truth will keep America strong.
