Letter: Shoreline Junior High should review its core values

(Shoreline Junior High School) These photos show two versions of a cheerleading group photo; one that included a student with Down Syndrome, and another that excluded her and was used in the yearbook.

Thank you, Courtney Tanner, for writing the article about the removal of Morgyn Arnold from the cheerleading squad photo at Shoreline Junior High.

It is very sad to see an individual who is a member of the team removed from the photo because of perceived “imperfections.” In fact, I believe it is outrageous that the school leaders allowed this to happen.

They owe Morgyn and her family and all of the students an apology for this unwarranted and mean-spirited action. Further, I would encourage the school leaders to review their core values.

We all have unique gifts and contributions to make even though we may not meet the standards of beauty and acceptability as defined by narrow-minded people.

In addition to a public apology, I would urge the school to publish the authentic photo of the cheerleading squad.
