Letter: Builders should be required to use bird safe glass for construction

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Sweeping views of downtown are seen from the first modern high-rise apartment community in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, Liberty Sky Apartments, offering 272 residential units featuring studio, 1 and 2 bedroom apartment homes as seen on Wednesday, May 25, 2021.

The Liberty Sky apartments seem to offer many advantages for high income renters, but no mention was made of protecting birds from 21 stories of glass. If glass buildings are the trend of the future, builders should use available bird safe glass, visible to birds but barely noticeable to humans, for construction. If builders don’t voluntarily do so, building codes should require it.
