Utah Rep. Burgess Owens is modeling himself after the classic idiom of the “pot calling the kettle black.” He apparently doesn’t adhere to the biblical passage in the Gospel of St. John, 8:7 about “casting the first stone” while engaging in the hypocritical two-faced practice of criticizing others for conduct practiced by the accuser. He appears to be auditioning to become the Republican-defending pot-caller-in-chief.
In a recent interview on the Fox Business Channel, he called America under President Biden a “dictatorship.” Really? America under former President Trump was far closer to being a dictatorship-leaning autocracy.
It was Trump supported by Republican legislators, not Biden, who temporarily damaged the democratic concept of a separation of power between the executive and legislative branches of our government. He flaunted all legitimate legislative attempts to uncover his nefarious attempts at dictatorial-like shenanigans. He hero-worshiped other totalitarian world leaders like Putin of Russia.
Completely opposite in intent and conduct, President Biden has diligently adhered to the democratic process of open disclosure and representative government. Nothing he has done can in any way be linked to the conduct of a dictatorship. The same can’t be said for the Republican party still being guided by Trump and buoyed by his electability-dependent House and Senate tagalongs (i.e., Rep. Owens).
