Letter: Where is Mitt Romney’s spine?

(Rick Bowmer | AP file photo) Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, speaks during a news conference Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, near Neffs Canyon, in Salt Lake City.

No doubt many people think that Sen. Mitt Romney is a principled person for speaking out against Donald Trump when his gutless colleagues wouldn’t. But if Romney had any real spine, he would have done what my 88-year-old aunt did last year — she left the Republican Party. After a lifetime supporting conservative causes, she realized that that road leads to people like Donald Trump, Sen. Mitch McConnell and the whole rotten cadre that populates the party. Yes, she threw out both the big orange baby and the stinking bath water.

Romney is a moral coward, and he, like most Republicans, in some twisted logic that even they don’t understand, falsely equate family and party. Only the very ignorant and stupid don’t realize that the Republican Party created Trump, and when U.S. senators had a chance to recoup their mistake by impeaching him, they failed the opportunity.

So, if you think that you’re being a good citizen by voting for Biden but elsewise voting for Republican candidates, then you’re really not thinking. Getting rid of Trump is less than half the problem: The Republican Party must go, too.
