Letter: Remember that legislators work for us

(Rick Bowmer | AP file photo) The Utah State Capitol stands in Salt Lake City on Jan. 17, 2020.

One thing all politicians — Democrats, Republicans or independent — need to remember: You are asking us for a job. We vote on whether we want to hire you. You get your basic ideals from your party platform, but your allegiance is to every resident of Utah, your employer. You owe no allegiance to party, person, donors or corporation. You are to work for the general good of the people. We are a republic, not a democracy, and even the political minority have a right to have their voices considered. Yes, Republicans, this could be you someday — soon.

Whether you are at the local, county, state or federal level, you represent Utah to the other states, the president and the world. If you want to represent Biden or Trump to us, ask them for a job.
