Letter: Where police knelt with protesters, there was no violence

(Craig Ruttle | AP) Chief of Department of the New York City Police, Terence Monahan, takes a knee with activists as protesters paused while walking in New York, Monday, June 1, 2020. Demonstrators took to the streets of New York to protest the death of George Floyd, who died May 25 after he was pinned at the neck by a Minneapolis police officer.

There were several cities across America where police actually knelt with protesters and prayed with them. There was no violence or looting there.

Let this be our national pattern before violent thugs can come in. Let this be our nation’s response to the protests that legitimately call our attention to racism and societal injustice. We don’t need Trump’s army. We need listening, sincerity and understanding.
