Letter: The military should not be used this way

I am a veteran of The United States Navy and am 62 years old. I have witnessed many things in my life, but what I witnessed on television Monday night is beyond maddening.

That the president of the United States would order U.S. troops to fire rubber bullets and teargas at unarmed peaceful protesters just so he can have a photo-op at the St. John’s Episcopal Church near the White House.

It is beyond the pale and the president should be ashamed, though I know he isn’t. America’s military should not be used in such a way. I am beyond angry and America should make sure to vote this November and end this charade.
