Letter: Less harsh language, please

(Alex Brandon | AP file photo) President Donald Trump speaks about the coronavirus in the James Brady Press Briefing Room of the White House, Friday, April 3, 2020, in Washington.

George Pyle in his March 29 column calls our president “a blithering idiot.” In response to his comment:

President Trump had the foresight on Jan. 31 to restrict people coming from China. If he had not done this, the COVID-19 pandemic would have been worse. He appointed a good Coronavirus Task Force (Pence, Birx, Fauci and Mauchin). It is doing a great job.

Pyle states that Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York is the “star of the hour.” In 2015, during his second term, the New York State Department of Health reviewed the state’s preparedness for a pandemic. The state was short 15,783 ventilators. Cuomo did not address this shortage.

Instead, he invested $750 million in a joint venture with Tesla and Panasonic to build solar tiles. Their factory was to employ 1,400 people; less than 400 work there today. This is similar to President Obama’s Solyndra. Cuomo should have purchased ventilators, not invested in private business.

Cuomo should be investing in the state’s crumbling infrastructure, and reducing taxes to stop loss of residents. His state leads the U.S. in lost residents.

Mr. Pyle, use less harsh language, provide more thoughtful political analyses.
