Letter: If you are not in need, donate to those who are

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Tiffany Vaughn and her daughter Emily, 6, of Park City help out at The Utah Food Bank on Saturday, March 14, 2020, after hearing they are hurting for volunteers, since groups that normally volunteer canceled after the order of mass gatherings due to the coronavirus outbreak.

As most of you know, the federal government is working on relief in the face of the COVID-19 virus. Part of this may take the form of a one- or two-time cash disbursement to anyone with an income below a certain level.

Many of you have been fortunate to keep your job or to work from home to continue to have a cash flow to meet your needs. Many of you, like my wife and I, are retired and have a consistent income from several sources.

May I strongly suggest that, if you do have a continued revenue stream, you donate your government payment to a needy organization. There are many, but those who directly provide food and/or services would be best. The Utah Food Bank is just one of these.

In times of crisis, Americans step up and show their best. Please make yourself and others proud by helping those less fortunate by donating.
