Letter: Our republic is unraveling

(Senate Television via AP) In this image from video, Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., speaks as the impeachment trial against President Donald Trump begins in the Senate at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020.

A number of U.S. senators are on public record stating that they will not be impartial jurors during the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump. Many have sided with Sen. Mitch McConnell to even block essential witnesses. And yet they had the brazen contempt for the Constitution and the American people to publicly swear an oath to be impartial jurors?

This is the start of the unraveling of our republic and democratic process.
