Letter: It was a mistake for Utah to end auto-safety inspections

(Rick Egan | Tribune file photo) People cross Main Street during a snowstorm in downtown Salt Lake City on Friday, Nov. 29, 2019.

As winter proceeds this month, I am amazed to see how many cars are having difficulty maneuvering the streets in the snow.

Closer inspection of those who I assisted revealed that most that were stuck were there because of bald tires. In addition to this observation, I had to reflect on my night driving, wherein I could observe many automobiles with headlights, tail lights, broken windshields and other driving safety features broken or missing.

As a student of psychology, I know some will not maintain their automobiles to safety standards because of expenses and because it is not required. I am thinking that the elimination of the inspection system was a big mistake and safety inspections should be reinstated.
