Letter: Iran isn’t the only nation fed up with its government

(AP file photo) Protesters hold flowers as tear gas fired by police rises at a demonstration Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, in front of Amir Kabir University in Tehran, Iran, to remember victims of a Ukrainian airplane shot down by an Iranian missile.

Last Sunday’s Salt Lake Tribune contained an article titled “Iran’s admission on jet brings rage in Ukraine and protests in Tehran.” In the article, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is quoted as saying “They (Iranian citizens) are fed up with the regime’s lies, corruption, ineptitude and brutality.”

Pompeo could just as well be referring to Trump’s regime. There are plenty of Americans besides me who are more than fed up with Trump’s callous and inept governance.

As an aside, the indescribable and horrific downing of the Ukrainian jet, killing all 176 souls aboard, would not have occurred if Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani had not been assassinated by an American drone. Not that Soleimani was a choir boy. He was a ruthless man.

But what did Trump expect might happen as a result of America’s disproportionate action? A slap on the hand? Reelection, possibly?

Again, another ill-conceived and costly mistake by America’s commander in chief.
