Letter: Democrats should borrow from Trump’s playbook

Dear Democratic Party,

Doing well in 2020 presidential election may unfortunately require that you borrow from Donald Trump’s playbook:

1. Counter his use of demeaning nicknames by giving him one. “Daffy Donald” — which reflects his often deranged, somewhat childish behavior — is one option. Another, “Don the Con,” captures his ability to con gullible people into believing his numerous untruths and unlikely promises.

2. Use a campaign chant (recall “Lock her up”, etc.) in your public gatherings to rally your core. Consider using “Kick him out” for that purpose.

3. For a campaign slogan, tweak the MAGA thing to better fit reality. “Make America great again, only really this time.” Or, if that is too long, “Make America sane again” also works.

4. After their success in 2016, a Republican/Russian alliance in 2020 is a certainty. Enlist your own foreign ally — the Chinese. They’ve likely grown quite tired of Daffy Donald and his ongoing economic war. As master hackers, they probably can hack into his old income tax returns so we can finally find out what he’s been hiding all these years.

5. No more references to socialism. Use “Americanism” instead. Nobody knows what this means anymore, so it is easily expropriated and has a nicer ring to it.
