Letter: Trump’s war on truth harms everyone

(Patrick Semansky | AP) President Donald Trump speaks with reporters before departing on Marine One from the South Lawn of the White House, Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, in Washington.

Those who are pressuring the Democrats in the House to impeach Donald Trump are not pressuring the Republicans in the Senate to convict him.

What, in the name of reason, are they thinking? Don’t they realize that a failed impeachment would legally exonerate him? In other words, he would be found not guilty. He could not be tried for his real crimes in office, because that would place him in double jeopardy.

If the Senate could be persuaded to convict Donald Trump, the Democrats would impeach him in a split second.

The millionaire supporters of Trump must be made to realize that his war against truth will impact their ability to make decisions. The falsification of reliable, honest, nonpartisan public records — for example, the weather report — would hurt everyone, including his supporters.

If that doesn’t make an impression on the Senate, the whole lot of them should be placed in a mental hospital, along with Donald Trump.
